Hello,

We want to thank you for your selflessness in making an adoption plan for your baby. We know your wish is for your child to be nurtured in a loving family that will give them every possible opportunity to succeed, and we are excited to possibly be that family.

This has been a long journey for us. We’ve been married for over 15 years, but our adopted daughter, Ruth, who will be two in the summer of 2017, has changed our lives for the better. It’s almost hard to remember what life was like before Ruth. We couldn’t have imagined her presence in our lives being this fantastic – and we’re looking forward to an additional child that will bring us all even closer together.

To understand Dana, it is necessary to understand her family, because they are very, very important to her. Dana grew up in a very tight-knit family that can name their 3rd cousins, and she still considers the cousins that she grew up with as brothers. Her parents recognized the importance of an education, and some of her earliest memories are of her mother studying to complete a degree in nursing. They instilled a love of reading in both her and her brother at a young age.

Maik was born in Germany. He was required to do a great deal for himself as a child, with his parents being small business owners. That experience helped him to become a very independent and resilient person. In 1996 he took a geology field trip with other German students to the west coast of the United States, and was amazed at the openness of the U.S., both in terms of landscape and of the people. He decided then to come back to the US and complete his graduate degree here.

We are both professors at a small college in Wyoming that is a wonderful place to raise children, with good schools and amazing neighbors. Dana’s family only lives a few hours away, which has been great as Ruth grows. Maik’s parents live in Germany, and we are looking forward to Ruth’s first trip oversees to meet her grandparents!

We love being active, and spend a great deal of time outdoors, exploring the natural beauty of the West. Dana also like to craft and knit, and Maik is a great photographer and artist. And we can’t get enough of seeing the world through the eyes of our child!

Dana’s Thoughts:
“I very much want to give a child the strong foundation of education and faith that was given to me by my parents. I love reading to Ruth, and I am looking forward to exploring her and her sibling’s imaginations through books. I also want to spend time just giggling and being silly with my children.”

Maik’s Thoughts:
“I look forward to taking our child to petting zoos and other outdoor activities, something that I really loved doing as a child. I’d also like to travel and visit friends and family as our child gets a little older, especially family with young children, as having a large family was one of things I missed growing up. Ruth is so outgoing, even at this age, she has changed me for the better, and I’m eager to share what I’ve learned about life with her and her future sibling.”

Adoption is close to our hearts, as Dana’s niece and her two cousins are adopted. Adoption creates bonds of love that are as strong as birth families. We are so amazed at how wonderful being parents has been, and are enthusiastically looking forward to growing our family. Know that your child will be loved and supported throughout their lives. All children are gifts, and we want to thank you for considering us.

All the best,
Maik and Dana
