Dear Expectant Mother,
We can't thank you enough for the precious gift you are considering giving us. Without your courageous consideration, we could not become parents. We are sure this is a difficult decision to think about, and we want you to know that your unselfishness is not taken lightly. We will do our very best to honor your decision and provide a lifetime of love, security and adventure for your child.
Both Andy and I are persevering people, so it was hard at first to give up on the idea of having our own biological baby. However, after we thought about it, we really want to experience parenthood. With Andy being adopted and me being a teacher, it just seemed like the perfect answer. After talking with the adoption agency, I had the best sleep I had in a long time. I knew we had made the right decision and I know the right birthmother has picked us.
We have spent the last 18 years building a strong relationship filled with adventure. We met on a Sierra Club hike that my husband was leading. We hiked in Pisgah National Forest; it was so beautiful and is still one of my favorite places! We camped in a nearby campground and Andy cooked me an elaborate dinner of pasta and meat sauce. Later that night, my tent zipper froze shut and it took everybody’s help to get me out in the morning! It was a weekend we will surely remember, and look forward to sharing with your child.
Every year we take a month to travel and see this beautiful country God created. We hike, camp and explore national parks, mountains and oceans. We have also traveled to Peru, Canada and Jamaica. I also was lucky enough to travel to Denmark and Germany with kids from the school I used to teach at. We also spend time with family at the holidays, which usually involves some travel to Pennsylvania as we both have family there.
When I think about the future and our family, I get so excited! There are so many things we want to do as a family! Of course we want to hike, camp and kayak as a family, it’s what we do. But I also look forward to teaching them all the little things in life, as well as how to swim and ride a bike, two passions of mine.
Since I will be teaching on line classes at home, it will enable me to be able to take our child to lots of different places, and be involved in lots of activities. I look forward to trips to the library, discovery place, museums, and county parks. Andy travels some for work, which will enable us to travel with him and see new places. Andy also loves to take our dogs on walks to our pond and he is already talking about running with a stroller. Andy is our planner when it comes to trips and hiking and has already come up with a list long enough to keep us busy for the next 50 years! Andy also likes to play board games and enjoys spending time reading and watching football. Andy mostly looks forward to sharing his love of nature with our child, as do I.
Thanks so much for allowing us the huge responsibility of parenting your child. We will cherish you and this opportunity forever.
Andy and Christy
