Dear Expectant Mother:

Hi there! We have found this letter tricky to start writing because we’ve struggled to know exactly what to say.  We want to give you a genuine sense of who we are, but in a way, it feels stressful like when waiting to be picked for the team in school or trying to win a popularity contest.  Despite that bit of anxiety, we are also excited.  We believe we are as ready as we can be to welcome a child into our lives.  After 15 years of marriage, we have developed a strong family foundation and a balanced life.  We look forward to being chosen by a birth mom and raising her child, and we know that when the time is right, God will work it all out in the best way for each of us.  You might be sure that choosing adoption is right for you, or maybe you haven’t made up your mind yet.  Either way, we appreciate the time you spend getting to know us a little bit better.

Both of us love being outdoors.  Some of our favorite memories together have taken place outside.  We met in the late fall through friends at our church.  We fondly remember sitting for hours outside their apartment after everyone else had gone home, talking and shivering in the crisp night air as we got to know each other better.   We enjoy winter, especially the Christmas season.  For as long as we’ve been married, we have gone to a local tree farm to cut down our Christmas tree.  Each year, we walk though the fields of trees trying to find the perfect one before the sun sets.  In every season, we regularly take walks or hike.  We love to be out in the sun and fresh air as much as we can.  Planting and caring for flowers and trees on our property during spring and summer is fun for both of us.  When we get away, we enjoy going to the beach during the summer, and Walt Disney World is one of our favorite places to vacation (even without kids as an excuse to go!) Lucky for us, we now have a relative who moved close to Disney, making it even easier and more enticing to go visit.

Our faith is the highest priority in our lives, and everything else flows from that each day. It is the foundation for our marriage and the mission behind our work.  We will certainly teach our child to understand the basis of our faith, and hope that it will help shape his or her character and choices in life. We believe that a parent’s job is to give a child “roots and wings,” giving them a strong foundation and teaching them to be able to live their life well when they are grown. Also, it is our job to be sure that they know they are always loved, without fail. We will do our best to honor the choice that you make, and we will not take lightly the trust you place in us to love and raise your child.

With our best,
Chris and Kathy
