Dear Expectant Mom,
We started writing this letter several times, not knowing how to start or what to say. We’re not sure what your situation is or why you are considering adoption, but whatever you decide to do, we know in our hearts it will be the right decision for you and your baby.
We would like to take the opportunity to introduce ourselves, Cary and Allyson. We have always wanted to have a child together. At first, we were devastated that we couldn’t have one of our own. As the years passed, we learned that it’s not genetics that make a family, but it’s the desire to love and raise a child together, wanting to share experiences with them, and make a difference in their lives… as much as they will enrich ours.
We met at work; not the most romantic of places. Ten years later, we are still together and as happy as ever. There’s not a day that goes by that we don’t tell each other, “I love you.” Through good times and bad times, we’ve always managed to pick each other up. We love to make each other smile and laugh. Together, with Cary’s sixteen-year-old son Cody, we would like to grow our family through adoption.
We enjoy spending our spare time together. Usually we go on walks in the park, make meals together, watch a movie or just sit on the couch to discuss our day. We even started training together to keep each other motivated to run 5ks and obstacle courses. Each year we take a trip to the beach, usually to the Outer Banks with our family and friends. We live close to amusement parks, go to baseball games, and we like to go to the nearby aquarium and museums.
We both have a wide range of hobbies. Cary is an avid fisherman, plays on a softball team and loves to spend time on the golf course. Allyson tried once, but we think she should stick to miniature golf. She likes to spend time baking, reading books and going to the gym.
There are so many experiences that we had while growing up that we would like share them with your son or daughter. We are such kids at heart and love celebrating the holidays. We will dress up as a family to go trick-or-treating. At Christmas we will decorate our home inside and out, as well as make a mess in the kitchen when baking and decorating cookies. We will teach your child how to play different sports and swim and we’ll take them fishing.
While Cody mainly lives with us on the weekends, he will be an important part of your child’s life. He looks forward to being a big brother, although he does draw the line at changing diapers. Your child will learn different sports from him, how to boogie board, play video games and how to build the coolest Lego creations.
We believe in the importance of education and learning new things. We will help your child strive to do their best and teach them that anything is possible. No matter what paths they decide to take in life, we will support them 100% to help them achieve their dreams.
We are lucky to live close to both of our families. We enjoy spending time with them; we often have cookouts and even go on vacations together. Our parents continue to give us guidance and encouragement. They have been supportive throughout this process and will be there for your baby. We hope to transfer their teachings of caring, working hard and being responsible individuals to your son or daughter.
We would like to thank you for reading our letter. We promise to unconditionally love your child and will raise them to the best of our abilities. They will have home that’s full of love and laughter and please know that your son or daughter will grow up knowing who you are and the sacrifice you made for them.
